Questions and Answers

Why is Delta Youth Theatre changing its season format this year?Celebrating 10 years of DYT has given us a chance to reflect on our journey and future. As we enter our next decade, we're excited to evolve with an even greater emphasis on the process. While productions have always been a highlight, we are dedicating the next 10 years to shining a light on the learning, growth, and skill development that happens along the way. To achieve this, we are transforming DYT’s format to offer an alternative training pathway that enriches theatrical education and deepens artistic growth. This shift fosters a more collaborative and experimental space, expanding our repertoire and storytelling styles. This new possibility will give the DYT team an ability to choose from a wider variety of shows and offer a greater range of subject matter. Additionally, we aim to create inclusive opportunities for performers of all ages and skill levels. By adapting our season format, we’re providing meaningful opportunities for performers at every stage, from beginners discovering theatre to experienced young artists honing their craft. Delta Youth Theatre has always been a place for growth, creativity, and excellence—we can’t wait to embark on this next chapter with our incredible students.

What is a "Marquee" show? Our "Marquee" shows are everything you’ve come to love and expect from a traditional Delta Youth Theatre production—high-quality performances with full sets, full costumes, and an immersive theatrical experience. For our 10th anniversary season, we’re excited to present two Marquee productions: Frozen Jr. in the fall, featuring our traditional four casts, and Into the Woods Jr. in the spring, with two casts. These productions will continue to showcase the incredible talent, dedication, and hard work of our young performers while maintaining the high standards that define DYT.
-
What is a "Spotlight" show? Our "Spotlight" show offers an exciting, actor-focused experience designed to challenge and inspire students in a unique way. Unlike our Marquee productions, which feature full sets and costumes, the Spotlight show embraces a more minimal "black box" theatre approach—where imagination takes center stage. With fewer production elements, performers will develop and refine their ability to convey character, story, and emotion through acting, movement, and expression. For our inaugural Spotlight production, we’re thrilled to present Seussical Jr. this spring. This production will still take place on the Equinox stage, complete with lighting and sound, and will feature one to two casts. While the approach is different, the learning experience is just as valuable, offering incredible opportunities for performers of all levels to strengthen their skills and creativity. Our hope is that this experience will help performers build confidence, versatility, and a deeper understanding of storytelling on stage.
-
Will tuition be the same for Marquee & Spotlight shows?Yes, tuition will be the same for both our Marquee and Spotlight productions. While the two types of shows offer different approaches to performance, both provide an incredible learning experience, high-quality training, and valuable opportunities for growth. Whether a student is stepping into a full-scale production or exploring the artistry of a more actor-focused performance, they will be challenged, supported, and inspired every step of the way. Our goal is to ensure that every performer, regardless of the production they participate in, receives exceptional training, gains confidence, and has a memorable, enriching theatre experience.

How will the audition process work?Auditions will now take place at two different times during the year: For the Fall Marquee production (Frozen Jr.): Auditions will be held in May/June 2025. Audition materials will be available by mid-May 2025. For the Spring Marquee (Into the Woods Jr.) and Spotlight (Seussical Jr.) productions: Auditions will be held in September 2025. Audition materials will be available by the end of August 2025. This new schedule allows us to plan ahead while giving students clear timelines for preparing and auditioning for their desired productions.
-
Can I be in both the Spring Marquee and Spring Spotlight productions? No, students will be cast in either the Spring Marquee production (Into the Woods Jr.) or the Spring Spotlight production (Seussical Jr.), but not both. While students may choose to audition for one or both shows, the directors will ultimately determine casting to ensure the best fit for each production. Students are welcome to indicate their show or time preference, and we will do our best to accommodate them. While casting is based on production capacity, we encourage all students to give the casting team as much flexibility as possible. Our goal is to create two strong, focused ensembles where every performer can dedicate themselves fully to their role and the rehearsal process. No matter which show you are cast in, you will have an exciting and rewarding theatre experience!
-
Should I audition for the Spring Marquee, the Spring Spotlight, or both?We recommend that students audition for both productions if they want the best chance of being cast. With limited roles available in each show, keeping your options open gives you more opportunities to be part of a production in the spring season. That said, if one show doesn’t fit your schedule or you truly don’t want to be in a particular production, you’re welcome to audition for just one. No matter what you choose, we encourage you to give it your best, and enjoy the audition process! Please note that there will be very limited/no ensemble roles in Into the Woods Jr.
-
What are the rehearsal times for the Spring Marquee and Spring Spotlight shows? This year, our Spring Marquee production (Into the Woods Jr.) and our Spring Spotlight production (Seussical Jr.) will each follow a set rehearsal schedule: Spring Marquee Show (Into the Woods Jr.) – Rehearses during the traditional Cast 1/2 times (plus some additional weekend/long weekend times): 📅 Wednesdays: 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM 📅 Sundays: 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM Spring Spotlight Show (Seussical Jr.) – Rehearses during the traditional Cast 3/4 times (plus some additional weekend/long weekend times): 📅 Wednesdays: 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM 📅 Sundays: 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM If you have any scheduling conflicts, we recommend considering them before auditions to ensure you can fully commit to the rehearsal process.
-
What happens if I only audition for one Spring production and I'm not cast? Will I still be considered for the other Spring show? No, if you choose to audition for only one Spring production (either the Marquee or Spotlight show) and are not cast, you will not automatically be considered for the other production. The directors will assume that the show you did not audition for does not fit your schedule or that you are not interested in being a part of it. In rare cases, if the directors are unable to fill a specific role with someone who auditioned, they may reach out to see if you would be open to joining the other production—but this is not guaranteed. To maximize your chances of being cast, we strongly recommend auditioning for both productions if you are open to being in either show.
